ABSTRACT The Topic of the study is "The impact of co-curricular activities on primary school children· s academic performance in Tororo District." The objectives of the study were to establish the main effects of participating in extra-curricular activities in Rubongi sub-county, assess the leve l of participation of children in co-curricular activities in Rubongi sub-county and to ascertain the importance of co-curricular activities in children's academic performance in Rubongi subcounty. In order to establish the gaps in as far as the study was concerned, the literature V\ a S reviewed following the objectives of the study, and the research design used in the study was explorative and descriptive in nature. The population ofthe study was selected through purpose v~ sampling which was derived to be 60 respondents. The research instruments used in data collection were interviews, questionnaire, documentary and analysis. The collected data was manually processed using Ms-Words and Excel computer packages. The background information biodata were all used as a foundation in determining results. The major effects of participating in extra curricular activities were exposure and professionalism. The level ol· participation of children in extra curricular activities was empowerment, culture and academic concentration. The major importance of participation in extra-curricular activities in academic performance of children were that the learners were motivated and for physical fitness. Through the discussions held the study concluded that extra curricular activities were part and parcel of academic work that should not be ignored. Among the recommendation made towards the stud: it was that the broad perspective of extra curricular activities should be emphasized. among others.
